Head of Governance and Anti-Corruption / Deputy Director

Sankhitha Gunaratne brings extensive expertise in anti-corruption advocacy and governance to her role as the Head of Governance and Anti-Corruption at Verité Research. With a legal background as an Attorney-at-Law, she has dedicated her career to promoting transparent, accountable, and participatory governance in Sri Lanka. Her work spans several critical areas, including the right to information, election campaign finance, public sector integrity, private sector corruption, and international asset recovery.

 

Prior to joining Verité, Sankhitha served as the Deputy Executive Director of Transparency International Sri Lanka, where she led key policy reforms and legislative advocacy efforts aimed at combating corruption. Her influence extends beyond Sri Lanka, serving as a board member of the UNCAC Coalition, a global network of civil society organizations focused on promoting the UN Convention against Corruption.

 

Sankhitha holds a Master of Arts in Corruption and Governance from the University of Sussex as a Chevening Scholar and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Colombo. She has also built a diverse professional background in legal practice, project management, advocacy, and community training with various governance-related organizations.

 

At Verité Research, Sankhitha leads the Governance and Anti-Corruption Unit, focusing on providing research-driven solutions to governance challenges both locally and internationally. Her leadership is central to driving Verité’s mission of advancing transparent and accountable governance practices in Sri Lanka and globally.
