On the 25th of October, Verité Research, together with Reporters Without Borders, launched the Media Ownership Monitor Sri Lanka. The Media Ownership Monitor is an international platform that traces and identifies the owners behind the key media outlets in different countries. As a pioneering initiative between the German Section of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and Verité Research, the Media Ownership Monitor platform has been updated to include Sri Lanka, and invites the public to find out, who owns the media outlets in Sri Lanka and how much?
The event included an overview of the Media Ownership Monitor (MOM) Sri Lanka by members of Reporters Without Borders as well as a presentation of key findings by Stephanie Nicolle, lead researcher of MOM and Deepanjalie Abeywardana, Head of Media Research at Verité Research. The event also included a panel discussion featuring Ms Dharisha Bastians, Mr Kumar Nadesan, Mr Kusal Perera and Mr MJR David. The discussion was moderated by Dr Nishan de Mel, Executive Director of Verité Research.
