Dr. Nimal Sanderatne is a writer, social scientist, and economist. He began his career at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, where he served as Director in the Departments of Economic Research and Statistics. He has also served as the Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon and NDB. He has conducted revolutionary agricultural economic research, having carried out several studies on rural credit and indebtedness, crop insurance, land reform and the plantations. He has also served as a consultant to several institutions, such as UNICEF, World Bank, Harvard, SIDA and ADB. He earned a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin.
