Sajini Wickramasinghe

Legal Research Analyst

Sajini is an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, a researcher, writer, and advocate for human rights, participatory democracy, and climate justice. She earned her Bachelor of Laws and a Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation from the University of Colombo.

 

As a World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Shaper, she was selected as one of 50 young people to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos and was honoured as a ‘Hero of Progress’ by HCL Tech. Sajini served as the Rapporteur on Discrimination at the Commonwealth Youth Human Rights and Democracy Network (CYHRDN) from 2022 to 2024. She was the Returning Officer for the Commonwealth Youth Council elections in 2024 and participated as a speaker at the Commonwealth Youth Forum 2024 in Samoa, held in parallel with the CHOGM.

 

During her tenure as President of the Law Students’ Association of Sri Lanka (2020–2021), she demonstrated her leadership and commitment to youth empowerment. Sajini has participated in numerous media conferences, TV interviews, radio programmes, and social media initiatives, and she has authored several newspaper articles promoting inclusive politics, human rights, and progressive legal reforms in Sri Lanka.

 

As a Youth Climate Ambassador selected by the British Council Sri Lanka, she represented Sri Lanka at COP28. Subsequently, as a Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) Youth Fellow, she participated in COP29 as a Party Delegate of Sri Lanka, focusing on climate finance and promoting youth inclusion in negotiations. She currently serves as the Sri Lanka front co-lead of World’s Youth for Climate Justice, advocating for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on Climate Change.

 

Sajini has also been consulted for Sri Lanka’s new National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the development of the country’s NDC 3.0.
