Sharya Scharenguivel

Global Academic Fellow

Professor Sharya Scharenguivel is Emeritus Professor of Law and former Dean, Head of Department, and Director of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Colombo. A distinguished legal scholar, she has held prestigious fellowships at St John’s College Cambridge, Balliol College Oxford, and Clare Hall Cambridge. 

 

She has served on numerous national boards, including the National Child Protection Authority, the Law Commission, and the Family Law Advisory Committee, and currently represents Sri Lanka in the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

 

Professor Scharenguivel has authored and co-authored several influential books, including Marriage Breakdown and the Duty of Support (1984), Perspectives of Constitutional Reform in Sri Lanka (2021), Parental and State Responsibility for Children (2005) and Selected Aspects of the Customary Laws of Sri Lanka  and has over 30 publications, 15 seminar papers, and 25 guest lectures to her credit.
